Happy Birthday, Typhoon.
Twenty years ago a bunch of teenagers from Salem, Oregon played a show at the Clinton Street Theater in southeast Portland. They were all between the ages of sixteen and nineteen, unkempt and dressed in plaids and earth-tones. The songs were murder ballads and gregorian chants and sea shanties. One song featured the dropping of a giant nautical chain repeatedly. Afterward, more than one audience member commented that the whole thing reminded them of Lord of the Flies.
Back then the band was known for having a lot of people in it and for being very young. Now? The band still has a lot of people in it.
In January, Typhoon will be celebrating its twentieth birthday and you’re invited. Join us for two nights of music, merrymaking and many happy returns. The whole gang will be there and each night we’ll be playing a unique set from the extended typhoon discography (including songs we’ve never played live before!). Best of all, we’ll be joined for the occasion by some of our
nearest and dearest buds.
Friday, January 23rd w/ Black Belt Eagle Scout + special guests
Saturday, January 24th w/ Lost Lander + special guests
It’ll be a party. Hope to see you.
